[[MediaWiki:Common.css]] styling overwrites everything, every theme, for every user. It is supposed to be used for styling specific snippets such as infoboxes, badges or custom snippets. Here for example [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki%3ACommon.css Wikipedia.com Common.css page]. There are however .css pages for every skin installed on the wiki, where we can provide specific styling for every skin, for example
* [[MediaWiki:Vector.css]]
* [[MediaWiki:Timeless.css]]
* [[MediaWiki:Vector.css]]
* [[MediaWiki:Minerva.css]]
* and so on...
Also, if we enable <code>$wgAllowUserCss</code> in the <code>LocalSettings.php</code> file, every user will have its own Common.css + theme specific style sheet in order to test out styles, or add specific readability rules if one is in need (color blindness, dark mode enthusiast, etc. ...). [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgAllowUserCss More infos here !] (I'm not saying we need or not to add that feature, just wanted to add my two cents).

Styling and themes

I removed most of the typography additions as it take over the styles of the chose theme (I use MinervalNewe that has a very cool default styling).

I think the user’s default themes choice should take over the CSS, and I would also remove the colors but as It doesn’t interfere with my theme, I don’t.

Let me know if it can be improved, for example by adding the theme’s class before headings. Raphael (talk) 12:41, 31 January 2024 (CET)Reply[reply]
